Origin:
Black Pepper has been used in Chinese medicine for over 4000 years to treat malaria, cholera, diarrhoea and other digestive problems. Like many spices it was highly prized and Attila the Hun is reputed to have demanded 3,000 lbs of pepper as part of the ransom for the city of Rome. In Greece, Black Pepper is still used to fortify the stomach, whilst the mendicant monks of India found a few grains of pepper a day gives them remarkable endurance enabling them to walk great distances. The berries turn from red to black as they mature, the peppercorns are basically the dried un ripened berries. Black Pepper aromatherapy essential oil is produced by steam distillation from the crushed peppercorns.

Black Pepper is native to south west India, it is cultivated extensively in tropical climates. Major Black Pepper aromatherapy essential oil producers are India, Indonesia, Malaysia, China and Madagascar. Black Pepper aromatherapy essential oil is also distilled in Europe and the USA.
Skin Care:
Black Pepper aromatherapy essential oil is said to stimulate blood flow to the skin, producing a soothing and warming effect. Black Pepper aromatherapy essential oil is also reported to be beneficial for chilblains.

One of the main uses of Black Pepper aromatherapy essential oil is in massage blends for muscular pain, stiffness and fatigue. WARNING:
Always dilute Black Pepper aromatherapy essential oil to below 1%. Use sparingly, Black Pepper aromatherapy essential oil can cause skin irritation with over use.
